Carnosine Highlights
Author: Jean Carper
- A breakthrough anti-aging substance, shown to have powerful antioxidant and anti-glycation effects
- Shown in studies to effectively slow down the aging process and to promote cellular rejuvenation
- Supports healthy cell membranes throughout the body and may be especially effective at supporting muscle health
A breakthrough in anti-aging science, L-carnosine is quickly becoming one of the most popular anti-aging supplements in the world today. L-carnosine is natural dipeptide (protein) consisting of two amino acids beta-alanine and L-histidine. It is naturally present in all body cells but its concentration decreases with age. Carnosine is considered to be a longevity nutrient since studies have indicated that it can delay the onset of the aging process and promote cellular rejuvenation.
Research has shown that the decrease in levels of carnosine is intimately linked with the acceleration of the aging process carnosine also acts as a powerful antioxidant that stabilizes cellular membranes, protecting them from damage by free radicals Carnosine is found in high concentrations in skeletal muscle, nerve, heart and brain tissue, and although its precise mechanism of action is not yet completely understood, numerous clinical trial have proven its effectiveness at combating free radical damage. Carnosine may especially useful for supporting nerve and muscle health.
In particular, carnosine is known for its anti-glycation effect. Glycation, a hallmark of diabetes, occurs during normal metabolism when sugar aldehydes react with proteins and result in the formation of abnormal proteins, which are thought to cause extensive damage to cells. Carnosine has been shown to block this reaction, protecting against the formation of abnormal proteins and effectively slowing down this aspect of the aging process.
