ADA Blood Sugar Goals for Diabetes

Source: 2nd Edition 101 Tips for Improving Your Blood Sugar, American Diabetes Association

What are my blood sugar goals if I have diabetes?

We encourage you to try for nearly normal blood sugar levels with few episodes of low blood sugar. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) goals are listed below. If you are persistently outside of these goals or have low blood sugar too often, you need to discuss changing your diabetes therapy with your health care team. These goals are determined from studies that examined the effects of near-normal blood sugar levels on the rates of diabetic complications.
